A “BIG data” digital platform that provides access to information about South Australia’s resources sector has been recognised for its benefits to the state’s economy.
The SA Resources Information Gateway, developed by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, won the Public Sector Transformation award at last week’s Australian Information Industry Association iAwards in Adelaide.
Judging panel chair Don Easter said SARIG made 130 years of data accessible and usable to explorers, miners, government, businesses, indigenous communities, and the public.
“This will help lead to more transparent and better decision making as well as increased economic benefit to SA,” he said.
“Many businesses and governments around the world are talking about big data trends, and with SARIG, SA has actually delivered.”
Entrants competed in five core award categories: Business Services; Community Services; Consumer Markets; Industrial and Primary Services; and Public Sector & Government.
There were iAwards for additional contributions: Start-up of the Year; Research and Development; Project of the Year; and as Outstanding Infrastructure and Platform Innovations. An independent panel selected by the AIIA judged all nominations.
