Launching The AgTech Advisory Collective.

The decision to launch my independent advisory practice earlier this year was driven by a strong conviction that change in AgriFood tech is needed across three critical areas:

  • How to commercialise AgriFood tech

  • How to fund and invest in AgriFood tech

  • How to scale AgriFood tech globally

The design of my advisory and investment practice Recode Ventures, has been developing in my mind for more than 5 years, evolving through my roles at BDO and SVG Ventures Thrive. While I wanted to drive this change from within those organizations, internal forces and external stakeholders dulled this vision.

Over the years i've come to realise that professional service firms and even venture capital firms, are simply a collective of talented individuals sharing infrastructure, expertise and a brand. However, in a world of cloud software and remote teams, it’s the individual, their reputation and network that actually deliver value and outcomes to clients.

My primary objective with Recode Ventures is for it to become my private advisory and investment vehicle for facilitating long term change across the three areas, which I believe underpin our ability to create the technologies needed for sustainable change in our food system.

My second objective is for Recode Ventures to function as a node within a global network of individuals with the capabilities needed to enable action across the three areas. My partnerships with Beanstalk AgTech and SONEAN have been the first steps in building this network.

Building this network of capability globally is why I'm excited to be a founding member of the AgTech Advisory collective, which is launching today.

The AgTech Advisory collective is currently a group of six independent advisors with deep specialisation in AgriFood Tech, located across Europe, North America, South America, and Australia.

The individuals in our collective include Patrick Honcoop, Allan Fetters, Rhishi Pethe, Maxence Guillaumot, and Alejo Valverde Lyons. As well as strategics partnerships with Shane Thomas from Upstream Ag Insights and Dan Schultz from Schultz Collaborative.

With experience from organizations such as Bayer, Claas, Yara, Simplot, Naio Technologies, and Climate Corporation, these individuals have been part of many significant developments in AgriFood innovation.

For our respective clients in AgriFood tech, this collective provides a clear value proposition:

  • In-market capability to facilitate market entry across multiple regions.

  • A deep understanding of global AgriTech and Agricultural markets.

  • An extensive global network into capital, corporate partners, and customers.

  • A structured way of working as individuals to deliver value to our mutual clients.

We believe that by operating as a collective we can bring the capability and capacity required to deliver client engagements, whilst also maintaining our independence to engage authentically and transparently with our clients.

I’m excited that our AgTech Advisory Collective is now out of “stealth mode”, ready to engage and support the amazing work of AgriFood tech companies globally.
